The Royal Liver Building was constructed between 1908-1911, designed by architect Walter Aubrey Thomas for the Royal Liver Assurance Company, built as a new head office for the company.

It stands on Pier Head in Liverpool’s city centre overlooking the river Mersey, in what at the time was one of Britain’s trading capitals.

Standing at 98m tall it was known as Britain’s first skyscraper and was Liverpool’s tallest building until 1965 when the Radio City Tower was constructed, and then the popular use of tower blocks were commonly constructed; to house the many citizens of the ever growing city.
